Internet Society (ISOC) Edit

The Internet Society is a non-profit American organization founded in 1992 to help with Internet related standards, education, access and policy. Its headquarters are located in Reston, Virginia, with offices in Geneva, Switzerland. It is membership based and currently has more than 140 organizations and more than 80,000 individual members. A major reason for the creation of the Internet Society was to provide support for organizations such as the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) which is a more informal organization. The ISOC is the parent organization for the IETF which is why all IETF Request for Comments documents are copyrighted by the Internet Society.
